What is the NHTSA?

As the federal authority for upholding vehicle safety standards, the NHTSA, which stands for the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, strives to help keep drivers and passengers safe on the road. They provide vehicle safety ratings so you can stay informed about which vehicles are considered the safest. Their mission is to "Save lives, prevent injuries and reduce economic costs due to road traffic crashes, through education, research, safety standards and enforcement activity."

How do I know if the pre-owned vehicle that I'm interested in has a safety recall?

You can do a quick search to find out if a vehicle has been recalled by entering the VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) into the NHTSA's search tool. Or you can search using the vehicle's year, make and model. The Lincoln website also provides a way to search for a recall on a Lincoln model using the VIN. If you'd like to take a look at the vehicle's CARFAX® Vehicle History Report™, Angela Krause Lincoln is happy to provide you with one, which will list any recalls.

How will I find out if my vehicle is subject to a safety recall after I purchase it?

You'll be informed of a safety recall via phone, email or first-class mail. The recall will detail the safety risks that were discovered and tell you what to do next. To receive the recall, your address and vehicle registration information must be accurate.
